bacon grease & settling in

When I talked about moving out of Baltimore people would often ask me what I will do all day if I live in a rural area. I was always confident that I could keep myself busy. Since moving here I've found the keeping myself busy is the last worry. Today Garrett and I woke up early to yard sale ourselves a dresser and a bed. The living room and kitchen have been supplied and decorated for two weeks, but our bedroom is a pile of blankets next to a pile of clothes. We didn't find a bed but we discovered a gorgeous dresser. At the last stop I bought myself a sewing machine. My mothers that I have been using since childhood lost its pedal and cord sometime a year ago and the replacement for the vintage machine is nearly 50 dollars. So the yard sale sewing machine was a saving grace. I love sewing. It's a skill I am grateful to have been taught as a kid. My grandmother would work on projects for her church while I sewed costumes for my Beanie Babies. I came home and fell immediately into a recipe book that has mostly too-complicated too-expensive ingredients and decided to plan a big dinner. I used a cornbread recipe from The Fannie Farmer, a book that was recommended to me by a dear friend. In a few hours I will make sweet potatoes and corn. Not the healthiest dinner, but hey, it's Saturday.
